Oscars 2017: Results

We had 23 players this year (counting me). Thanks for playing! Unfortunately (for me), I didn’t learn my lesson, and ended up with two winners. James, remember a tie-breaker question for next year! This…is awkward…

If you look closer…

Must have been a duplicate card. Guess I’m getting a new accounting firm for next year! For my Grand Prize winners, unlike the Best Picture winners, you each get a prize.

In all seriousness, though, I feel awful that these two groups had a once-in-a-lifetime bucket list experience tarnished by a silly mistake. Not to mention the poor Matt Damon lookalike with the briefcase. Wouldn’t want to be that guy right about now.

And from the results, you all were just as surprised. With 23 entries, no one picked Moonlight for Best Picture!

That’s it for 2017’s contest. All participants should have received an email with your results. See you next year!

Oscar 2016: Results

We had the biggest year ever with 22 entries! And…most of you beat me. So, I’m gonna owe a lot of books. Here’s a fair representation of yours truly as I’m grading these things:

There was also a four-way tie for second place, and only a single-point lead for first, so I narrowly avoided having five winning players! I better come up with a tie-breaker question for next year.

All participants should have received an email with your results. Unless your name is “dasdasd” and you chose to input your email address as “adasdasd@dasdd.com.” Umm, thanks for playing?

Interesting trends:

  • No one predicted Mark Rylan’s win. Literally no one. That’s the only weighted category no one got.
  • Most people (me included) over-estimated Gaga’s chances. She and Stallone were the most common “wrong” answers.
  • Likewise, Ex-Machina’s visual effects win was a shocker to most. But it’s a great movie and I’m glad it got some love.

That’s it for 2016’s contest. See you next year!

Oscar Pool 2014

It’s time once again for the SuperBowl of Cinema!

I love movies. If you put a gun to my head and told me to choose between movies and books, I’d probably tell you to just go ahead and shoot me.*

*(NOTE: If I ever get famous enough to have rabid, crazy fans, please do not track me down to try the aforementioned hypothetical.)

If you’re like me, you’ve got your predictions. Come March 2nd, you’ll be around a TV, computer, or projector watching the Tinseltown’s big night.

So why not make it interesting? Standing offer: If you can beat me at predicting this year’s winners, I’ll gift you (or a friend) a free copy of either one of my Click Your Poison ebooks. I’ll post my picks just before the event starts, so please send me your own choices before that to qualify. All you have to do is fill out the form below.

The complete list of the nominees (with trailers!) are here.

We Have a Winner…

Congratulations to Eddie, the first reader to successfully solve the case in MURDERED!

PhotoFunia-4d188f1

The Amateur Detective Contest is now “Case Closed” but if you haven’t solved it yet, don’t worry. This book was meant to be lingered over and enjoyed. Take the time to smell the poisonous jungle flowers. There’s a lot more to the story than simply winning! Keep trying, and challenge your friends. See who’s got what it takes.

Congrats again, Eddie!

Amateur Detective Contest!

AVAILABLE NOW: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H3T9TAI

Ever read a whodunit where you outwitted the main character? Ever watched a murder mystery where you outfoxed the gumshoe? Grab your pipe and magnifying glass, super sleuth, it’s time to test your powers of deduction in Click Your Poison’s Amateur Detective Contest!

murdered_promo

How does it work? MURDERED is a murder mystery unlike any other, where YOU are the main character and must solve the crime by making choices. To see what I mean, try out a sample here.

The Kindle edition of MURDERED released on Amazon on Thursday, 5 December 2013. That’s when the contest starts. One grandprize winner will receive the *first ever* signed paperback copy (the paperback release date is 12 December 2013), annotated as such and congratulating you on your prowess as a detective. You’ll also receive an autographed copy of INFECTED or a $25 amazon gift certificate (your choice) AND a collectible INFECTED wine glass (to toast to your success). That’s over $50 in prizes!

Oooh, sparkly!
Oooh, sparkly!

How do I win? The contest is simple. Once the ebook is released, the first reader to email me the correct identity of the story’s villain (along with your proof) wins the grand prize. That’s it! It’s a race against time to piece together the clues.

PS — You MUST email me the via the contact form. If you publicly spoil the story, you’re disqualified. Also, you’ll make me sad.

Good luck and happy hunting!

UPDATE: We have a winner…
